Hello, my name is Nicole Faup. I am a 10 year old from Manalapan, New Jersey. I read the book Loser by Jerry Spinelli and I can relate to Donald Zinkoff.
Unfortunately, so many people get bullied every day. However, some people don’t realize that they are the bully target until after the damage is done. Donald Zinkoff from the book Loser has experienced this horrible feeling and I have too. Even on the darkest days Donald always believed there was sunshine at the end of every bumpy road. I can related to Donald because when I am feeling alone and feel like my heart is broken, there is always something to make a huge grin appear on my face. When Donald is sad, a trip around the neighborhood in his Dad’s mailman truck turns his frown upside down.
Donald Zinkoff and I both always know how to find the bright side of any situation. For example, when Gary Hobin kicked Donald off the field day team because he is not athletic, he stopped by an old woman’s house for the day. Whenever I lose something such as a competition or game, instead of being a sore loser, I take it as a learning experience and learn to try better the next time. Donald and I are like puzzles. We can be taken apart but can be put back together easily.
The last similarity Donald and I have is that we both have a special person in our lives to cheer us up when we are feeling down. Donald could always count on Claudia. Whenever they see each other, Claudia always gives him a small gift that brings joy (even if it is a hard dried piece of bubble gum). My older sister is someone who I can count on to cheer me up. I have learned how important it is to have that special someone always by your side.
Most people would say how Donald Zinkoff is a “Loser” however, to me he is a hero!
Bullying is a serious problem in our schools that no kid should be a part of. I was just appointed the Student Council President of my school. As President, I would like to bring bullying awareness to my school. It is very important to me to help make a difference! Thank you.
