THOUSANDS OF NEW JERSEY STUDENTS TO BENEFIT FROM
CHARLES LAFITTE FOUNDATION’S KID’S CORNER GRANT
Funds Will Provide Exclusive Science Center Access for
Students in All 31 NJ “At-Risk” School Districts
Jersey City, NJ (September 28, 2012) – Liberty Science Center has been awarded a generous grant from the Charles Lafitte Foundation’s Kid’s Corner to support its Community Evenings. These exclusive events provide free Science Center access to all students, teachers, and families in New Jersey’s 31 “at-risk” school districts (formerly classified as “Abbott”).
Held on seven nights during the school year, and after normal operating hours, the evenings give families an exclusive opportunity to explore the Science Center’s exhibition galleries, experience the excitement of IMAX films and 3-D shows, and engage in special family programming, live demonstrations and hands-on activities, all at no cost. Over 6,000 students, teachers, and families participate annually.
During their visits, learners of all ages enjoy hours of STEM * excitement to help them become actively connected to pivotal issues in science, health and society. Each Community Evening is themed around a socially relevant issue or event and complements an exhibit, film or activity being presented at the Science Center that evening. Topics for the 2012-13 school year include Health and Nutrition, Dental Health, Environmental Literacy, Green Energy, and many more.
*STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math
