Thousands of New Jersey Students to Benefit from Charles Lafitte Foundation Grant
Jersey City, NJ – Liberty Science Center has been awarded a generous grant from the Charles Lafitte Foundation (CLF). The $35,000 grant supports Liberty Science Center’s Community Evenings, exclusive events hosted throughout the year for all students, teachers and families from NJ’s 31 former Abbott or “at-risk” Districts. These guests are invited to explore the Science Center’s themed exhibition galleries; experience the excitement of IMAX films and RealD 3D shows; and engage in special family programming, live demonstrations and hands-on activities – all at no cost.
“Charles Lafitte Foundation’s support of Liberty Science Center’s community evenings provides opportunities for learners of all ages to gather at the Center and experience the range of exhibitions and special programs presented here,” said Daniel Menelly, Liberty Science Center’s vice president of STEM education. “For many guests, participation in a community evening is their first exposure to the Center, providing an exciting opportunity to wander and imagine how the science presented impacts their lives, learning and future. We appreciate the Charles Lafitte Foundation’s role in supporting this important form of community engagement.”
Liberty Science Center is a 300,000-square-foot learning center located in Liberty State Park on the Jersey City bank of the Hudson near the Statue of Liberty. Dedicated to bringing the excitement of science to people of all ages, Liberty Science Center houses 12 museum exhibition halls, a live animal collection with 110 species, giant aquariums, a 3D theater, the nation’s largest IMAX Dome Theater, live simulcast surgeries, tornado and hurricane-force wind simulators, K-12 classrooms and labs, and teacher-development programs.
