Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

-Dr. Seuss

CLF Kid’s Corner Partnered with Bridge of Books to Celebrate the Great Dr. Seuss’ Birthday.

The Bridge of Books Foundation (BoB) commemorated Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America by donating nearly 20,000 books to at-risk children throughout New Jersey.   BoB and Kid’s Corner came together to promote children’s literacy at the Head Start Centers across Monmouth County.

Led by Kyra Citron, an avid reader and advocate for children’s literacy, Kid’s Corner organized volunteers to join in the cause.   Kyra enlisted the help of her 8th grade classmates at Ranney School to volunteer at The Acelero Head Start Center in Monmouth County.  Ranney School eagerly stepped up to the challenge and sent students to join Kid’s Corner and BoB to spend an afternoon spreading the joy and excitement of reading.

Volunteers read to nearly 500 pre-k students in Keyport, Neptune, Howell, Red Bank, Asbury and Freehold.  In addition to providing the schools with two books per student, each child was given a copy of It’s a Little Book by Lane Smith to take home.  These gifts, or as Kyra would say, “these bedtime stories” were made possible because of a grant from the Charles Lafitte Foundation Kid’s Corner.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!  We will keep on reading…
